Our Story

Tokyo Beauty Stars was launched in the spring of 2023, with the goal of introducing the world to the best Tokyo beauty trends, products, and services.

In 2018, a stylist at an industry event made the comment that hair salons shouldn’t get caught up in the excitement around the upcoming 2020 Tokyo Olympics. “Tourists and visitors are only looking for great food, luxury hotels, and sightseeing spots,” they said, “not beauty services.”

The comment struck me because I knew that Japanese beauty services and hair stylists were some of the best in the world. I also knew how positively Japanese beauty services are perceived in other countries. This is not just due to Japan’s famous focus on hospitality, but also because Japanese stylists must hold a national license to cut hair. Stylists here are trained in creating very detailed work and their skills are considered the best in Asia. I felt that with the current influx of visitors to Tokyo, this city could easily become a beauty destination spot.

At the same time, with an oversaturation of hair salons in Tokyo, I was aware of the highly competitive nature of the market. Salons attempted to attract customers through heavily discounted prices, but they were still struggling. I wanted to find a viable way of addressing these issues that would help salons remain competitive.

In starting this project, I interviewed salons and friends from a variety of countries to test my idea. With stylists and international friends on board, Tokyo Beauty Stars was born. Our mission is two-fold: to bring the best of Japanese beauty culture to an international audience through collaborations with top salons in Tokyo, while also encouraging growth in the market through our projects.

In order to ensure that Tokyo Beauty Stars only provides services we can stand by, we have done extensive research in designing our beauty packages. With a team of international writers who understand Japan, both culturally and linguistically, we pride ourselves on our ability to bring you the best beauty services available in our amazing city. About Reservstions

How do I make a reservation?

After registering as a new member, select the desired menu from each salon page, click "Make a reservation," and enter the necessary information in the reservation form. Payment can be made by credit card. After payment is complete, a reservation completion email will be sent to your registered email address.

*For request reservations, payment will be made after the reservation is confirmed by the salon.

What is the difference between instant booking and request booking?

Depending on the salon, there are two ways to make a reservation:

  1. Instant booking : Select an available date and time and your booking will be confirmed immediately.
  2. Request reservation : After you submit your desired date and time, the salon will confirm and notify you by email whether the reservation has been accepted or not within 24 hours.

Can I make a reservation on behalf of my family or friends?

Reservations can only be made by a parent or guardian for a minor child. Even in this case, the email address and phone number used when registering as a member will be used as the contact information.

I haven't received the reservation completion email.

First, please check your spam folder. If you can't find it, log in to your member page and if your reservation history is displayed, your reservation has been completed. If you are still unsure, please contact us using the inquiry form.

How long does it take to arrange a reservation?

We aim to contact you within 36 hours of booking. *If the salon is closed, it may take additional time to confirm your appointment time.

Is a tip required?

No, tipping is not customary in Japan and all fees are included in the bill.

Are hair salons and nail salons in Japan tax-exempt? Can I get a tax refund?

Cosmetic treatments are not eligible for duty-free travel. Unlike physical products such as bags, cosmetics, and souvenirs, they are intangible services and are therefore not considered "exportable." The basic purpose of visiting a beauty salon is to receive "beauty treatments" such as haircuts, hair coloring, nails, facial massages, and hair removal. Is the salon English-speaking?

Not all affiliated salons have English language support. Please check the "Language" section of each salon. All of these salons welcome foreign customers, but making a reservation can be difficult for those who do not speak Japanese. Our English-speaking customer service representatives will be happy to assist you with the reservation process.

What are the benefits of booking through Tokyo Beauty Stars?

We work closely with salons to offer special deals that are more affordable than booking directly. Some salons even offer discounts and additional free services.

Who will be performing the treatment?

Each customer has different hair and skin types, which require the appropriate techniques and experience. At Tokyo Beauty Stars, we carefully select salons with extensive experience that cater to a variety of skin and hair types, and each salon employs the most experienced hairdressers and estheticians to provide treatments.

What happens if I make a rebooking at the same salon through Tokyo Beauty Stars?

We sincerely welcome you to our salon. If you make a reservation through our company, you will be able to use the salon under the same conditions as before. Special rates will also continue to apply.

Can I request a specific stylist?

Yes, of course you can! Please write the name of your preferred stylist in the "Notes" section.

What types of salons does Tokyo Beauty Stars partner with?

We only partner with the best salons, selecting them based on their reputation and the skill of their stylists.

What is "omotenashi"? What kind of experience can you have at a Japanese salon?

"Omotenashi" is a special type of hospitality deeply rooted in Japanese culture, and it is the attention to detail that makes our customers feel comfortable and special. At our salon, we treat our customers with warmth and respect, and above all, we strive to make them feel their best.

Why should I visit a Japanese hair salon? Are Japanese stylists better than those in other countries?

In Japan, stylists are required to complete a rigorous training program and obtain national certification before working in a salon. Their attention to detail has earned Japanese hair stylists a reputation as among the best in the world, and they are in high demand, especially in the West, Europe, and Asia. As one of the world's leading fashion capitals, Japan boasts some of the most cutting-edge techniques. Japanese stylists can recommend cuts and colors that perfectly complement your facial features and express your unique fashion identity.

What if I'm not satisfied with the treatment?

If you have any complaints, please contact the salon directly. Tokyo Beauty Stars only provides online booking services and cannot take any responsibility for the services provided by affiliated salons.

Payment

What payment methods are available?

Credit cards are accepted.

Are there any fees when making a payment?

We charge 10% of the total reservation amount as a system usage fee.

How secure is my payment?

Tokyo Beauty Stars uses Stripe for payment processing. We do not retain or store credit card information.

Will a receipt be issued?

The receipt issued by Stripe can be used as a receipt. Please check the Stripe payment completion screen or Stripe transaction history. You can also use the statement issued by your credit card company as a receipt.

Reservation changes, cancellations and refunds

I want to confirm my reservation.

You can check your reservation details by logging in to your account and going to "Confirm/Change/Cancel Reservation" on your My Page.

I would like to change the reservation date and time or menu.

Changes cannot be made after a reservation has been confirmed. If it is before the cancellation deadline, please cancel and make a new reservation with the desired details.

Can I change the number of people receiving treatment or the treatment content?

Unfortunately, we cannot accept changes after a reservation has been confirmed. If it is before the cancellation deadline, please cancel and make a new reservation.

How do I cancel and get a refund?

Please cancel through the member page. Cancellation fees are as follows.

・48 hours or less before the scheduled arrival time: 100% of the total reservation amount (non-refundable)

We ask that customers refrain from late cancellations or cancellations without prior notice. This will have a negative impact on business relationships with affiliated salons. There is no penalty for cancellations made up to 48 hours in advance. If you do not show up to the salon without prior notice, your future reservations with Tokyo Beauty Stars may be restricted. Refunds will not be given in the event of disasters, traffic delays, accidents, illness, etc. For details, please read "Cancellation of reservations due to customer convenience, cancellation fees" and Cancellation policy " in the Terms of Use.

Refund methods vary depending on the card company. It may take between one week and two months for the refund to appear on your statement.

What happens if the appointment is canceled due to reasons at the salon?

If the salon cancels due to reasons beyond their control , the full amount paid will be refunded . The timing of the refund will depend on the processing status of your credit card company.

Will I get a refund if my flight is cancelled or delayed?

If you miss the cancellation deadline, a cancellation fee will be charged regardless of the reason. Please complete the cancellation procedure on the member page as soon as possible.

What happens if I am late?

If you are going to be late, please be sure to contact the salon directly. If you are more than 15 minutes late, we may not be able to provide all of the services you have booked, and if you are unable to receive treatment due to your lateness, your appointment may be canceled. Under no circumstances will we offer refunds for cancellations due to lateness.

What should I do if I don't receive a refund?

Depending on the card company, it may take anywhere from one week to two months for the refund amount to appear on your statement. If you have not received the refund after 30 days, please log in to your account management screen and contact us using the inquiry form.

Can I change my registration information?

Go to My Page "Account Settings" and make the changes.

I would like to change my password.

Go to "Account Settings" on your My Page and click "Change Password."

Can I change the name or content of my review after posting it?

You cannot change the content of your review after it has been posted. You can only set the display name when posting. Please check the content before posting.

Is there a bookmark function?

Yes, you can bookmark your favorite salons. You can manage your bookmarks from the bookmark list on your My Page.

How do I cancel my membership?

Please select "Cancel membership" from your My Page . After canceling your membership, email delivery will stop, but you may still receive a few emails depending on the timing.

What should I do if I want to list my salon?

If you would like to list your salon, please fill out the necessary information in the dedicated form and contact us. After checking the details , a representative will contact you within 3 to 5 business days. If you have not received a response within that time, please contact us again as it may have ended up in your spam folder or the registered email address may be incorrect.
